The 2022 National Bank Team Tennis Provincial Championships were held at the beautiful Salmon Arm Tennis Club from August 5-7. It was a great weekend to get together to play—16 Men’s and Women’s teams from BC’s Interior and Lower Mainland participated in the event.

This year brought some change for the better as National Bank is the new sponsor for team tennis in BC. Tennis BC is excited to have formed this partnership!

A special event for all

This was more than just a tennis event. Volunteers from the Salmon Arm Tennis Club went above and beyond to make this an occasion for the whole community to enjoy. Preparation began several weeks beforehand to make sure everything was set up and ready to go. Over the course of the weekend, volunteers were on hand to do daily set up to make sure all participants felt welcomed.

They really pulled out all the stops with fresh fruit and home-baked goodies on hand for participants! The Salmon Arm tournament committee worked tirelessly to ensure the event was a success and it exceeded all expectations. Marianne VanBuskirk, Marietjie Bonthuys and Winston Pain were instrumental in making sure every little detail was taken care of.

Historic sights and gastronomic delights

Hardworking athletes need to refuel, and what could be nicer than a dinner with fellow tennis enthusiasts to celebrate on court efforts? The dinner was held at the R. J. Haney Heritage Village and Museum, a stunning venue that celebrates the history of Salmon Arm. Participants were treated to tour of the heritage site which was followed by a scrumptious dinner that ended with the restaurant’s signature rhubarb crumble.

To add to the welcome and the celebratory feel of the event, each player received a player package from the Salmon Arm Economic Development Society and Downtown Salmon Arm Association that included lots of local goodies and each team received  $50 Salmon Arm Downtown Dollars to try out the local eateries and farmer’s market. Participant prizes ranged from locally sourced items to an overnight stay and excursion package from the S.A.E.D.S.
