Yes- 100% attendance is required for certification.
The Instructor course is typically delivered over two weekends (5 days total).
New course dates are typically added throughout the year. Check back regularly or sign up early as courses fill quickly.
Courses are first come, first served — register as soon as possible once registration is posted.

- Minimum Age: All candidates must be turning 16 years of age or older at least one year after the course start date.
- Please note that those candidates who are 15 years old turning 16 within one year of the course can do all in-course testing. However, even if they have successfully completed all of the course elements, they won’t receive their Tennis Instructor certificate until their 16th birthday.
- Play Level: To complete the Demo Test Evaluation, candidates need to have a play level of at least 3.0.
- Participants must have strong written and verbal-communication skills in English.
- 100% attendance is mandatory in all courses–no accommodations for non-attendance can be made for any reason.
- Certification is comprised of: demonstration, leadership, teaching, knowledge and Making Ethical Decisions evaluations.
- E-Learning Modules must be completed before the course starts (approximately 6-7 hours needed to complete both the Quality Standards and Respect in Sport for Activity Leaders).
- Candidates will not be given access to their results until both the Making Ethical Decisions (MED) module and all eight e-learning modules have been completed.
- Candidates who cannot attend their course MUST withdraw two weeks prior to the start date of the course and will incur a $50 cancellation fee.
- No refund will be provided to the candidate when he/she begins the course and withdraws before completion of that course
- Courses are on a First Come – First Serve Basis. The clinics fill up quickly so please sign up promptly.
- Cost for the Tennis Instructor course also includes membership to Tennis Canada’s Tennis Professionals Association (TPA) (and all of the benefits of this membership, including insurance).
- TPA benefits become active once the candidate successfully completes the course.
- Candidates requiring a retake have 18 months to complete
- Please note that a course may be cancelled/rescheduled because of insufficient registration numbers, etc.

Retake Policy
Candidates who are unsuccessful in their evaluation may complete up to two (2) retake attempts within 18 months. You will only need to retake the portion you did not pass.
After two unsuccessful attempts, candidates must re-register and complete the full Instructor Course again, including payment of the full course fee.
How to Register for a Retake:
Payment is required to secure the retake spot.
Candidates must use the registration link to sign up for the retake course, which will place them on a retake list.
Tennis BC will contact candidates on the retake list when retake opportunities become available.
To confirm a retake spot, candidates will receive a payment link for a $50 retake fee.
CLUB PRO 1
- Minimum Age: 17 (as of first day of course)
- Play Level: 4.5 or higher
- Prerequisites: Instructor Certification
- Candidate needs 150 Hours of tennis coaching experience or if less has passed the Instructor course with honours.
- Candidate must be a current member of the Tennis Professionals Association.

Club Pro 2 (2027)
- Minimum Age: 20
- Play Level: 5.0 or higher
- Prerequisites: Club Pro 1 certification; Must have two years of full-time experience or five years at a Seasonal Facility. Currently working full time at a year-round or seasonal facility. Candidates must demonstrate their experience in the CP2 application.
- Candidate must be a current member of the Tennis Professionals Association.

Waitlists & Registration Process
If you click on a registration link and see 0 spots available, please still register. You will be added to the waitlist and notified by Amanda (Tennis BC Coaching) if a spot becomes available. You are welcome to register for a second course option in case your preferred course does not open up.
During online registration, you will be asked to provide a credit card. Your card will be charged immediately in order to secure your place on the class list or waitlist.
If you need to withdraw from a course (even if you are switching to a different course date), please notify Amanda so the course list can be updated. Withdrawal requests should be submitted as soon as possible to ensure proper processin
Important Course & Membership Details
- The Tennis Instructor course fee includes TPA membership through the end of the year, along with all associated benefits, including insurance coverage.
- TPA benefits become active only after the candidate successfully completes the course and completes TPA membership registration.
- Courses may be cancelled or rescheduled due to insufficient registration or cost-related factors.
- There is an 18-month limit to complete the exam or retake following the course.
- Per Tennis BC policy, no refunds will be provided once a candidate begins the course and withdraws before completion.
