As part of Tennis Month in Canada, we hosted tennis events all across BC. Thank you to everyone who came out! These events brought together communities and families, introduced new players to the sport, and offer players of all levels a chance to improve their game.

Kits Try Day
We kicked off Tennis Month in full swing on June 1st with our First Set Try Tennis event at Kitsilano Beach. Over 50 participants joined us for a fun-filled day of free lessons, games, and community spirit. From first-time players to tennis enthusiasts, there was something for everyone, including a playful obstacle course that had kids smiling all afternoon.

Nelson Play Day
Nelson’s Play Day event was a great success, despite the hot 36°C temperatures. A total of 37 children participated in the day’s activities- one more than the temperature itself! The turnout was a testament to the community’s enthusiasm, and the day proved to be a wonderful way for the kids to enjoy the warm weather.

Bear Mountain Try and Play Day
On June 14th, Bear Mountain Tennis Centre hosted successful Tennis Month events that brought together the South Vancouver Island community.
Starting strong with the First Set Community Try event, 38 participants, from children to adults, all new to tennis or with minimal experience came together to learn the basics of the game. It was a fantastic opportunity for everyone to pick up a racquet and have fun on the court!
The First Set Community Play Day brought together 22 participants with some experience, from beginner to intermediate levels. This session was designed for those looking to build on their skills, and it welcomed players of all ages, creating a lively and inclusive environment where children and adults could play together.

Vernon Try and Family Day
Vernon’s Try and Family Day brought together enthusiastic locals eager to try tennis. Despite low pre-registration (only 15), 35 people showed up to enjoy a day of tennis, learning, and fun. The event provided the perfect chance for people to enjoy the sport and connect with others. Vernon looks forward to more opportunities to grow the sport in the community and is already planning to make next year’s event even bigger and better!

Maple Ridge Tennis Festival
The Maple Ridge Tennis Festival marked a spectacular conclusion to Tennis Month in Canada. The event was an overwhelming success, with 164 participants joining in the fun throughout the day.
On the courts, players of all ages enjoyed free lessons, participated in target practice, and tested their skills in the fastest shot competition. The festival was just as lively off court with face painting, food trucks, mini tennis, swingball, and other fun activities.
The day wrapped up with a thrilling pro exhibition match between Henry Choi/ George Jecminek and Joe Wood/ Graeme Kassautzki. The match kept the crowd on the edge of their seats and in the end, Henry and George took the win with a close 6-3, 7-6 finish.
Special thanks to the Maple Ridge Tennis Club and the City of Maple Ridge for their collaboration in making this event a huge success!
