Fahey Claims EncoreFX Victoria International Singles Title

Katharine Fahey from Pennsylvania defeated Jessica Failla of California to claim the EncoreFX Victoria International singles title at Panorama Recreation Centre.

Fahey, who is coached by former Swedish Pro player Catarina Linquist work her way quietly through the draw to claim the title 6-2, 6-1 in the final over Failla.

Fahey who just finished her freshman year at the University of Michigan where she is playing on a tennis scholarship was competing in only her third ITF Women’s event in 12 months.  Along the way she defeated Canada’s National U18 Champion Alexandra Vagramov as well as Alexandra Morozova the tournament second seed.

For Failla who is from Southern California, it was also a great week as she won 4 matches on the way to the final including a semifinal victory over Alexa Graham the number 1 seed in the semifinals.

The Victoria event has grown over the past three years with the field getting stronger and bigger each year and with the support of its title sponsor EncoreFX who is looking forward to what future years will bring.  Many believe that from this year’s event, several players will be players to watch it the future.
