Vancouver, BC – Oh what fun it is to play tennis… When it comes to making plans for the holiday season, a large number of women make sure to mark the ‘AMICA’ tournament on their winter calendar each year!

The AMICA Grand Prix, held December 5 – 8th, is the annual year-ending BC senior women’s tennis event played on the indoor courts at the Arbutus Club in Vancouver.

Presented by the BC Senior Women’s Tennis Association, this popular event is sanctioned by Tennis BC and is a Provincial Tier 1 tournament, awarding ranking points to women aged 35+ in both singles and doubles. Categories are every 5 years, ages 35 through 65+. Each category has a maximum of 8 singles players or 8 doubles teams.

Corporate sponsors also participate in the action. Title Sponsor AMICA Arbutus Manor, as well as Advantage Sponsors Dexter Realty and Bancorp Financial Services truly help this tournament pack some extra punch with participants. Players received long-sleeved white shirts, TheraBand stretchy-bands, as well as cookies, bananas, and plenty of sweet snacks at the Tournament Desk.

“Amica is a great annual event that all the players really enjoy participating in”, says Volunteer Manager and Arbutus Club member Terry Buckley.  “Excellent fun tennis and it is nice to welcome a few new players to the tournament. Everyone on the committee commits and contributes so much time and effort to make the tournament such a successful event”.

Sunday saw spectators come out to watch some of BCs top players competing for their category championships, and… win or lose, it seemed like everyone had some fun along the way.

The next BCSWTA event is the LadySport Doubles Championships, held February 21 – 23 2020.
