Mexican Duo wins EncoreFX $15,000 Victoria International Tennis Doubles Title
Panorama Recreation Centre, Saanich, BC – The Mexican partnership of Marcela Zacarias and Andreea Villareal defeated Alexa Graham and Frances Altick of the USA to win the doubles title at the EncoreFX $15,000 Victoria International Tennis Tournament at Panorama. Zacarias and Villareal won in two sets 7-5, 6-4.
Friday was also quarterfinal singles day with three of 4 seeds going down to defeat. In the first match of day, Alexa Graham defeated Marcela Zacarias the number 1 seed 6-4, 6-0.
Second up saw Canadian Rosie Johanson defeat the fourth Michika Ozeki of Japan in three sets 3-6, 6-2, 6-4.
The third seed to fall was Jessica Ho the number 7 seed who lost in three sets to Kana Daniel 4-6,6-2, 6-3.
The only seed to survive was Tori Kinard who needed three sets to defeat Wendy Zhang. Zhang was up one set and 4-1 in the second when Kinard fought her way and eventually on to victory.
Saturday will be semifinals day.
Action will start at 10 am with Alexa Graham vs Rosie Johanson to be followed by Kana Daniel and Tori Kinard.
The winners will face off in the final on Sunday at the Panorama Recreation Centre.
