Coquitlam, BC – The City of Coquitlam and BC Blind Sports and Recreation Association have teamed up to provide drop-in tennis lessons at the Pinetree Community Centre. BC’s Building Tennis Communities (BTC) Champion, Kiyo Breiting, is coaching the program. Originating in Japan, Kiyo traveled to Japan in order to learn the special coaching techniques used for this sport. She then returned to Canada to share the sport with the community in BC. Kiyo says that rather than emphasizing hand-eye coordination like in regular tennis, blind tennis is about hand and ear coordination.
