The U12 Rogers Outdoor Junior Nationals were held at the Carrefour Multisports in Laval, Quebec August 17-23, 2019. In girls singles, No. 1 seed Emma si yu Dong reached the finals, where she fell to Alberta’s Sara Kostic 6-2, 6-2. This is Emma’s second consecutive national final. Back in March 2019, Emma captured the U12 Rogers Indoor Junior Nationals. BC’s Eliana Kook was also successful in making it through girls singles round robin play and earned a spot in the Championship flight last month in Laval. Eliana went on to win the Girls U12 Championship Flight 5/8 Play-off and finished in 5th place. In boys singles, No. 13 seed Eric Wang qualified for the Boys Singles Championship Flight. He battled through a tough three-set quarterfinal match to reach the semifinals. Eric would go on to finish in 4th place. In girls U12 doubles, BC brought home another national championship title as Emma Si yu Dong and Havana Kadi captured the title 6-2, 6-1 in the final over Ontario team Nadia Lagaev and Isabella Marton.

The U14 Rogers Outdoor Junior Nationals were also held at the Carrefour Multisports in Laval, Quebec, August 24-30, 2019. For the second consecutive time, BC’s Stewart Aronson was crowned the 2019 Outdoor National Champion! He successfully defended the U14 crown he won at the 2019 Rogers Indoor Junior Nationals in Vancouver. In girls singles, Isabella Asenov was successful in making it through round robin play to reach the Championship flight. Isabella would go on to finish in 6th place. In boys U14 doubles, Stewart Aronson teamed up with Ontario’s Aleksandr Mitric. The duo would be just a few points shy of winning the boys doubles title as they lost a close three-set match (5-7, 6-1, 6-10) in the final to the No. 3 seeds from Quebec, Haitam Aboufirassi and Jughee You.

The U16 Rogers Outdoor Junior Nationals were held August 19-24, 2019 at Les Internationaux de Tennis de Gatineau. In boys singles action, BC’s No. 9 seed Henry Ren reached the semifinals, while No. 9 seed Lachlan Robertson reached the singles quarterfinals. On the girls side, Danielle Tuhten captured the girls singles national championship title with a 6-3 6-3 win in the final over No. 2 seed Kayla Cross of Ontario. Grace Haugen of BC also reached the girls singles quarterfinals. In girls doubles, Isabella Asenov and Ella Rain Nielsen reached the semifinals, where they fell to the eventual champions and No. 1 seeds Kayla Cross (ON) and Annabelle Xu (QC). Danielle Tuhten was also successful in doubles play, reaching the final with Manitoba partner Reece Carter.

The U18 Rogers Outdoor Junior Nationals took place at the Ontario Racquet Club, August 10-17, 2019. BC’s Jackson Boone reached the boys singles and doubles quarterfinals, with fellow BC teammate Isaac Dee. Aram Noroozian teamed up with Ontario’s Stefano Liokossis to reach the boys doubles semifinals (they lost to the eventual national champions). In girls U18 doubles, BC-duo Grace Haugen and Alexandra Nielsen reached the finals. En route to the finals, they had a close three-set match with fellow BC-duo, Hana Cho and Maryjoe Crisologo (6-4, 2-6, 10-8). Cho and Crisologo had previously defeated the No. 2 seeds (Alberta’s Mia Kupres and Ontario’s Marina Stakusic) 7-5, 3-6, 10-8.
