First Round U18 Girls Singles action at the Victoria International Junior ITF

Panorama Recreation Center this week is playing host to the 4th Victoria International Junior ITF World Ranking event which features 85 juniors in boys and girls U18 youth tennis action this week.

Monday saw 16 singles matches played in the girls division and 8 boy’s doubles matches.

In the first round of day, Canadian National Junior Champion Alexandra Vagramov the number 1 seed in the girls draw was taken to three sets by Alisha Manolescu of Toronto 6-3, 6-7, 6-1. This past summer, Vagramov won her first ITF Junior Title overseas.

Other seeds winning their first round included Rhea Verma of India the number 2 seed as well as Americans Lauren Stein, Taysia Rogers.

Number 4 seed Jessie Gong and number 5 seed Juliet Zhang both of Vancouver both advanced to the second round which will be played on Wednesday.
The upset of the day featured Sarah-Maude Fortin of Montreal who defeated the number 6 seed Ashley Jacobs of Alberta

Tuesday will feature 16 Boys Singles matches at Panorama and the girls will play doubles.  Play starts at 830 am.  Viewing is only in the tennis viewing tomorrow.  On Thursday, there will be on court seating for both boys and girls quarterfinal singles play.

Tomorrow action will feature international seeds Stefan Palosi from Romania as well as three American seeds and two Mexican seeds. The other two seeds are Canadians Razvan Baiant of Vancouver and the number 8 seed Aaron Diemer of Brentwood Bay.
