Regional Schools Program Coordinators

Vancouver Island (South): Dean Gillis  (250) 475 - 7121
Dean is a former national level player, and recipient of a NCAA university scholarship. He has organized over thirty (30) tournaments, and initiated a number of high profile events, including the $10,000 Labatt's Wood Racquets Tournament. He is the coordinator of the Cedar Hill Recreation Centre in the district of Saanich, and a Certified Club Pro 2. He is also responsible for organizing the Tennis B.C. South Island League and coordinating the Tennis BC School Program in Greater Victoria. He is one of our valued Community Champions, building tennis communities on Vancouver Island and receiving the Gold Award from Tennis Canada for his initiatives in "growing the game" at Cedar Hill (TDC).

Central Okanagan (Kelowna, Westbank): Willie Jung  (250) 470 - 7442
Willie Jung is the Central Okanagan’s Tennis BC Schools Program Facilitator & Graduated Building Tennis Community Champion. He recognizes that tennis is considered “the sport of a lifetime” because everyone during the course of their entire life can play it. The skills and experiences necessary to learn and compete in tennis mirror the skills and experiences necessary to compete in other areas of our lives. Tennis is utilized as a vehicle to expose youth and their parents to the benefits of recreation and education and to build personal development.

Willie has delivered the Tennis BC Schools program in Kelowna for the past 5 years, where he has gone to 30+ schools and reached over 4,000 children & youth. Willie’s vision is to provide an atmosphere of positive encouragement to all those wanting to play tennis. He hopes to contribute to the health and vitality of the communities in the Okanagan Valley by raising the profile of tennis and making the sport more accessible to everyone in the local community. Willie is also a certified Life Skills Coach and encourages discovery not only in tennis but also in life with on-going participation in active living pursuits.

Shuswap (Vernon, Salmon Arm): Doug Rawson  (250) 838 - 7472
Doug has been involved in sports, both as a competitor and a coach, for most of his life. He has coached hockey, down hill Skiing and Martial arts over the years as well as being a Certified Personal Trainer.  He began teaching tennis in 2002 and became a Club Pro 1 in 2004. He has been involved in the Building Tennis Strategy as a community champion for the past 6 years working on getting new courts in Salmon Arm and Enderby as well as working with Parks and Rec. in several communities running spring and summer programs. Doug is also delivering the TBC in schools programs in School District 83 and 22 and is a director and the club pro at the Salmon Arm Tennis Club where he runs their lesson and JR. programs

Vancouver Island (Central): Gerald Yung (250) 753 - 2866 or (250) 514 - 9228
Gerald is a former national and international level player and recipient of an NCAA scholarship at University of California - Berkeley.  He began playing tennis at the age of 9 and is a former national doubles champion.  He has taught tennis for over 25 years.  Currently, he is the director of tennis at the Westwood Tennis Club in Nanaimo.  This is the only year round facility in Nanaimo offering four indoor courts. There, he is actively involved in building the junior tennis programs for year around play as well as coaching private and group lessons to people of all ages.   Gerald has two certified coaches assisting in the program delivery.

West Kelowna: Rosie Schaich  (250) 769 - 6641
Rosie has been involved in sports for most of her life, before starting to play tennis Rosie played Table Tennis and was highly ranked in the province.  Rosie is very active in the local Tournament scene and has won numerous tournaments up and down the valley. Rosie began teaching tennis in 2000.  Rosie is a new community champion in 2011 and eager to build tennis in her community as well as working with the Parks and Recreation Department in West Kelowna running summer camps. Rosie is also delivering the TBC in schools programs in West Kelowna and is the club pro at the Lakeview Heights Tennis Club where she runs their junior programs organizes Ladies night and runs all the tournaments.
